Welsh Bagpipes - Pibau Cymreig

Gweithdai - Workshops

Bagad Pibau Morgannwg is a small community pipe and drum band, with the aim of performing at events in Wales, teaching piping and drumming, and raising the profile of Welsh bagpipe music. If you are interested in playing or learning to play Welsh bagpipes, or drums to accompany bagpipes, please contact us at the email address below.

We have held monthly workshops at the Soar Centre in Merthyr Tydfil, on a Saturday of each month, starting at 10.30 until 12.30. The cost around £3.00 per person. PLEASE contact us for information regarding future sessions.

The sessions are not aimed at beginners but we will try and accommodate all standards of players from beginners through to the very experienced. The sessions generally focus on Welsh repertoire for pipes, basic piping techniques, how to articulate and ornament the music, learning by ear and playing as a group. Some instruments are available for those people who don’t have their own pipes, or for pipers currently playing different types of bagpipes. We use the Galician style bagpipe (a common style found along the length of the Atlantic coastal area) in the key of C.

The sessions are normally led by Gafin Morgan and Antwn Owen Hicks.

If you’d like more information about dates and times, or other aspects of workshops/sessions, please contact us at bagadmorgannwg@gmail.com
